DETAILS AND BACKGROUND OF THE PRINCIPAL AND TUTOR

David Jones BA (Hons) Theatre Principal and community drama tutor is a very experienced theatre practitioner.

His original theatre and performance skills school in Totnes is now in  its 13th year with 40+ students, in three age groups ranging from 8 to 18. He runs two other theatre schools at Galmpton Nr Brixham & Dartington. David  has been featured on both BBC and ITV  He was lecturer in drama at Plymouth's university college of St. Mark & St. John, for over four years and was from 1997 to 2001 writer & tutor for the Torbay youth theatre at South Devon College.

David has worked in drama for many years with both Devon County Council and South Hams District Council and also with Torbay District Council. For over two years David taught drama at three nationwide performing arts schools in Devon. He has now run over 5000 drama workshops with both children and adults. He has worked with young offenders, the blind, care in the community clients, play leaders, youth club leaders and clients from the private, business, and media.

He is a publicly performed playwright, having written plays to date on, loneliness, disability, drug and child abuse, bullying, the plight of the elderly and social injustice. In the Spring of 2000 David was commissioned to write three new plays to celebrate the Millennium.

In the last ten years he has set up ten youth theatres in Devon. His work concentrates on reducing inhibitions and increasing confidence and natural creativity and covers such areas as relaxation and imagery, theatrical status and character development, narrative and voice development, improvisation and devising and creative writing techniques.

David is a police cleared child tutor, a first aider and holds £1,000,000 public liability insurance. He  has been a regular guest on BBC and local radio and in the last eight years his students have appeared on both BBC1 and BBC2, as well as in independent films and television adverts. In 2002 one of his students landed the lead role in a new international documentary and others have been filmed and have appeared in  popular BBC Drama series on prime time national television. During March and again in August 2004, students were again invited to audition for parts on national television, with in 2005, one 16 year old being successful in securing a character part in a popular BBC series. In April 2007 two 10 year old students chosen and appear in a new Television advert. August 2007 two teenage students chosen for an educational film. July 2008 three students chosen for a new ecology film. Oct 2008 16 year old Stephen from Galmpton chosen for a new ecology information commercial
